The discipline of medical illustration is composed of many discrete fields, each with a specific audience. For example, surgery illustrations are created (of course) for surgeons, while patient educational or instructive images are created for the general public. These two groups represent ends of the audience spectrum. Surgeons on the one side are very well educated and demand highly detailed and accurate images.
